I am now on my fifth version of a pyramid-inspired city block train world. It is noticeably more difficult to start building them, in mid-game especially. This is the reason why I had to switch back to 3x3 (100x100). Plus the more space each block has, the more space is wasted if you don't go full megabase scale of production.Re: Megabase Grid / City Block size. by FuryoftheStars » Mon Feb 20, 2023 3:37 pm. You'll find that 1:1 trains are quite sufficient. But the blocks need to be pretty big, since a lot of py buildings are very large. So keep that in mind. Required research: Space Train and Pylon.I agree chunk size is relevant in Factorio. I was just pointing out the fact that a real-world city designers might use a "round" size for city block lengths uses far weaker reasoning than those that can be made for Factorio. My point is that the notion of "chunk size" only makes sense in the context of a discretized grid system. Here are some details: - LHD grid aligned 9x9 chunks (294x294 tiles & 5x5 Roboports) area with 4 way Celtic knot intersection. - Used different templates for 4,8 and 12 stations. 4 station one have 1 extra train capacity i.e train limit = 2. - Cityblock is for trains and belts only. Size of the block is actually mostly determined by distance between junctions being equal to size of the ...I have two games going right now using the city grids from Nilaus. I started by using the one you link above and am currently having to replace it in the entire base to the Grid aligned version here. The one I linked is better for a few reasons but the biggest is that all the prints in the blueprint book are already aligned to a common absolute grid system.Block are in a brick pattern, so I only have 3-way intersections. IMHO 2-4-0 is a decent compromise - at 41 tiles long it fits easily enough in city blocks around 100x100 tiles in size. For block sizes K2 has large power poles use a chunk (32 tiles) for distance, so common ones tend to be 3x3 chunks (96 but actually 100) for square designs (which i think fit nicely for 4 roboports, been awhile).I noticed that most of the standard blueprints and youtube videos involving a Grid or City Block make them 100x100. It helps if you can keep most deliveries fairly local. e.g. a ton of your green circuits go right into making red circuits, so if those production areas are far apart then it generates a lot more train traffic across the whole grid. 3.My suggestion would be to make the block big enough to fit in 4-5 stations plus whatever assemblers etc you might need per city block. This might mean that the city block size would also be tied to the train length you are going to use. Might be able to get away with smaller blocks if you are using shorter trains. 2.Given that I want my city block to have maximum 6 inputs/outputs points (3 for each sides, while grid layout kind of just masks the remaining 2 sides), I think it might make sense to have plastic/battery/sulfur in 3 different blocks. Except for the charcoal it is in a self contained cityblock (4 large electric poles in length and width). In my city-block designs, 3-in and 1-out covers the majority of my needs and use 1-4 trains for those. However, I found that more complex factory blocks need more than 3 inputs and some (particularly chemical plants) have more than one output. I find 1-1 trains allows me to fit the extra stations.

The blueprint contains the entire outer path, but you still want its width/length at 100. The blocks idea looks really good, but I'd be more tempted by a train-based version with a grid of rails going around every block with a siding on every one of them. You throw a train down and have it go around and take all the needed resources to the right block. Or maybe a system like the bot bus? Same principle as a main bus, but all bots.
